Anne Marie (Johnson) Spears passed away of natural causes at age 87 in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She was a resident of Ambler, PA. Anne grew up on farms in Bucks County PA, the youngest child and only daughter of Raymond Johnson and his wife Helen (Hauler) Johnson. She spent her adolescent years in Newtown, PA, and graduated from Newtown High School before working in downtown Philadelphia as a telephone operator at Wanamaker's. She met John V. Spears, Jr. of Ambler, PA at a dance, and later described him as "the handsomest man I ever met." They married in July, 1949. She is survived by their four children included two boys and two girls, John III, now of Ellicott City, Maryland, Margery, of Burien, Washington, David of Ambler, PA, and Julia of Mount Laurel, New Jersey. A sweet, dedicated and caring mother, she expanded her world in later life by caring for customers of Sears, Roebuck and Company in their stores first in Norristown and then in Montgomeryville. She was an active member of Upper Dublin Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends, following a religious calling she first discovered as a teenager, and spent time on efforts to improve race relations. She was also a great lover of birds, flowers and history of all sorts. Services will be held at Upper Dublin Meeting, 1506 Fort Washington Ave, Ambler, PA, at noon on February 27, 2016, after interment next to her husband of 64 years at Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
