Frank Boni, Jr., of Ambler, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Ruth Mary (nee Savage) Boni in 1992.
Frank enjoyed a second beautiful marriage of 19 years with Julia Ann (nee Eckfeldt) Gehman before her passing in 2013. Frank and Hugh Gehman had been good friends, as were Ruth and Julie. Their church, First Presbyterian Church of Ambler, played a central role in Frank’s life where he served as an elder and in other roles over the years.
Frank graduated from the University of Michigan in 1947 with a BSE in mechanical engineering. He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1945. As a Professional Engineer, he worked in product planning and development. He retired in 1983 as Vice President of Engineering of Yarway Corporation, and as President of Envirite, an environmental services subsidiary of Yarway. Frank traveled a great deal during his career and into his retirement years with his wife Ruth. After Ruth’s passing, travel continued with Julie. Retirement years also provided time to pursue his love of painting. Early works were primarily architectural in nature including many churches and buildings in the Ambler area and sites visited during his travels. Later works included portraits of family members and friends.
Frank is survived by his children Cindy (Kenny) Voorhies of Marietta, GA, Thomas Frank (Krynn) Boni of Voorhees, NJ, and Jennifer (Michael) Berdine of Steamboat Springs, CO, and grandchildren Karoline (Michael) McGuckin, James Voorhies, Liz Boni (Chris Bumm), Jacqueline (Tony) DeRisio, Amy (Justin) Murphy, Andrew (Gloria) Boni, and Leah (Zachary) Sutherlin, and great-grandchildren Grace, Gavin, Nico, Luciano, Emilie, Matteo, and Lillian.
Frank is also survived by his step-children Wayne (Louise) Gehman of Wolfeboro, NH, Wendy (Ray) Enstine of Water Mill, NY, Carolyn (Scott) Conti of Ambler, and Susan Gehman (Sam Gayman) of Ambler and the Gehman grandchildren Hilary Gehman (Matt Smith), Carter (Melanie) Gehman, Scott Enstine (Lisa Krekeler), Lyndsey (Ed) Barlow, Andrew Heine, Rebecca Heine, and great-grandchildren Luke, Carson, Charlotte, Greta, Adelyn, EJ and Aiden.
The Boni and Gehman families are so very grateful to Frank’s friends and the staffs at Gwynedd Estates and Spring House Estate’s Willowbrooke Court for their loving care and kind words.
Interment at Whitemarsh Memorial Park was private.
