Helju Marie Stim died at home on November 22, 2019 in Maple Glen, PA, at the age of 90. Helju was born in Polva, Estonia, in 1929. She and her family fled their homeland during the Soviet occupation of Estonia during World Word II and then lived in the Geislingen refugee camp in Germany as displaced persons for 4 years. She immigrated to the US in 1949. Helju earned her BS in Medical Technology and a MS in Microbiology from Temple University. She worked as a Microbiologist at Merck for nearly 10 years, where she met Tom, her husband of 57 years. Helju, born Helju Agatha Torop, is survived by husband, Dr. Thomas B. Stim; children, USAF Ret. Major Christopher Stim, Andrew Stim (Priscilla House), Susan Stim VanHouten (Darren), Alicia Marigliano (Peter); grandchildren Sarah, Caroline, and John Stim; Ellie and Lila VanHouten; and Emma, Annika, Sofia, and Cecilia Marigliano; and her beloved nephew Andres Torop. She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Bertha Torop (nee Loo) of Rosma, Estonia, and Vineland, NJ, and her brothers Meini Forapson of Ottawa, Canada, and Aadi Torop of Vineland, NJ. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maple Glen, PA. Viewing will take place from noon to 1pm and funeral Mass from 1 to 2 pm.
