Margaret "Micki" Engle

Margaret (Micki) McDaniels Engle of Horsham, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 25, 2023, from complications of cancer treatment. Micki was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 8, 1944. After growing up in the Brooklyn housing projects, Micki moved with her mother and younger brothers to Los Angeles, to be closer to her mother’s family. There, she graduated in 1962 from Hollywood High School. While in school she worked at a diner in Hollywood, and after graduation she worked as a telephone operator at Pacific Telephone and Telegraph.  It was there she met her future husband, William Patrick Engle. They married in 1967 in Los Angeles, and together they raised two daughters, moving across the country to Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and around the world from Malaysia to Egypt to Guyana. Micki eventually settled in Horsham, where she was a longtime member of St. Catherine of Siena parish. She was a believer in hard work and lifelong learning, earning a secretarial certificate from Sussex County Community College in New Jersey in 1989, and her Associates Degree in Business Administration from Gwynedd-Mercy College at the young age of 60. At the time of her passing, she maintained a current property and casualty license, and she had recently retired as an insurance specialist. She was a beloved Mimi and a loyal friend, always willing – and offering – to lend a hand. Micki lived fiercely independently, enjoying the simple things in life that meant so much to her.

Micki was predeceased by her husband in 1996, as well as her parents Dorothy Strittmatter McDaniels and Edgar McDaniels, and her brothers, Michael McDaniels and Robert McDaniels. She is survived by her daughters Erin Engle and Gabrielle Batkin, her son-in-law Josh Batkin, and her grandsons Henry, William, and Charles Batkin, all of Washington DC.

Services will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023, at St. Catherine of Siena in Horsham. The family will receive visitors from 10:30-11:00am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am. For friends and family unable to attend in person, the Mass will be live-streamed at https://youtube.com/live/eyhyS7cklX8.

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, the family suggests a donation in honor of Margaret Engle to the Saint Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at St. Catherine of Siena, “SVDP at St. Catherine’s”, 321 Witmer Road, Horsham, PA, 19044.
