Margaret Spangler

December 28, 1944 — September 27, 2024

Margaret (Peggy) Spangler (née Flaherty), 79, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 27, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and devotion. Born on December 28, 1944, in Toombeola, Ireland, to the late Stephen and Anne, Margaret moved to the United States where she began her career as a nanny in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.

After marrying Ronald E. Spangler, the couple settled in the Northeast section of Philadelphia, where they successfully ran a small business and raised four children. Margaret later worked as a waitress, but her nurturing spirit brought her back to her passion for childcare as a nanny until Parkinson’s disease prompted her early retirement.

Margaret’s love of nature was evident in the vibrant flower and vegetable gardens she tended, and in her passion for bird watching. She was a generous soul, providing refuge to orphaned wildlife, along with caring for her dogs and cats and finches. An avid photographer, Margaret frequently visited her homeland of Ireland, capturing the beauty of her roots.

She will be remembered for her gentle heart, deep ties to her heritage, and her unwavering love for family, animals, and nature.

Margaret is survived by her four children: Susan (Jimmy), Brian (Monica), Ann Elizabeth, Jennifer (Bob). Three siblings: Ellen, Frank (Barbara) and Anne. Ten grandchildren: Bridget, Mark Jr., Matthew, Amanda (Josh), Samantha (Ryan), Stanley, Bobby, Joshua, Ashley, Shannon, and four great-grandchildren Abigail, Paul, Olivia, Ezekiel. Margaret is preceded in death by her sister Mary (Jimmy).

There will be a service held on Thursday October 3rd, 2024 at Shaeff-Myers funeral home located at 145 Tennis Avenue, Ambler Pennsylvania, with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. and the service beginning at 11:00. A luncheon will be held following the service at Bridgets Steakhouse 8 W Butler Pike, Ambler, Pennsylvania. Public parking is available less than one block south of the restaurant.
