Mary Kathryn Wahl, 54, of Ambler passed away on March 18, 2025 in her home in Ambler, surrounded by her siblings.
Mary Kathryn was born in Abington, PA to Charles T. and Mary Jane (nee Leaming) Wahl. She graduated from Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School and Chestnut Hill College. She received a Master’s Degree in Special Education from La Salle University. Mary was a dedicated educator. She started the pre-school program at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Bridgeport, PA and taught second grade there. She worked in Newton, MA as a special education teacher and at Mastery Charter School in Philadelphia. She also served as a social worker at La Salle Academy, where she was a beloved member of that community and mentor and friend to many.
Mary is survived by her brother and sisters, Elizabeth Wahl, Jonathan Wahl, and Kristina Wahl McCabe (Dennis); her beloved nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Kate (Joe), Jack, Claire, Libby, Will, and Brendan; and, her treasured great nieces and nephews, Braedan, Harper, Charlie, Ella, and Josie. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Jane and Charles Wahl and an infant sister, Jennifer.
Mary was a gifted teacher in and out of the classroom. She taught everyone around her through her kindness, candor, sense of style, and overall example of how she lived her life. Mary was tough as nails and had the biggest heart. Whether wearing a winter hat, a baseball cap or a fabulous fedora, Mary looked like a million bucks and had the best legs in the family. She was always up for a night out or an adventure. She loved the beach and the sun wherever she could find it, and especially loved spending time in Ocean City, NJ with family and lifelong friends. Mary taught everyone how to pack a cooler properly for a cold beer at the beach. She spent countless summers in OC with her nieces and nephews, where they all developed a unique and special bond with their Mare Dawg.
She will be remembered by her family and friends with countless memories, incredibly fun times, and laughter. She loved the Mummers and McGillin’s on New Year’s Day. A huge sports fan, Mary was always up for a good game, and you could always count on her to show up to a gym, a field, or a baseball diamond to cheer you on. She looked forward every year to March Madness, having more knowledge of teams and players than you could imagine. Mary’s uncanny quick wit brought smiles and warmth to many conversations. Her straightforward common-sense advice about the big and little things in life will be missed. She listened with her whole heart and said what you needed to hear. Mary’s wisdom, humor, and love created a special bond among friends and family.
Mary was a true warrior. Diagnosed with multiple myeloma just before her 30th birthday, she quietly battled her disease for years, never complaining. She forged through life fearlessly. Her legacy will be defined by her brave heart, her unbelievably fun and giving spirit, and her deep love for her tight-knit family. We are all better people for having Mary in our lives.
