Robert E. Myers, of Ambler and a former long-time resident of Fort Washington, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 31, 2024 at the Horsham Center for Jewish Life. He was 93.
Born on September 6, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Corson and Florence (née Gray) Myers.
Raised in Philadelphia, he attended Northeast High School. Bob went on to graduate from Eckels College of Mortuary Science and he joined his father in business at the Myers Funeral Home in the Logan Section of Philadelphia as a licensed funeral director in 1953. He later moved to Ambler merging with the Walter Shaeff Funeral Home to form the Shaeff-Myers Funeral Home, Inc. in 1979. His son, Richard, joined him in the business in 1996. He remained a licensed funeral director until the day he died.
He was a past member of Jarrettown United Methodist Church and a current member of Supplee Memorial Presbyterian Church. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Managers of the Ambler YMCA for over twenty years. Bob was a dedicated member of the Concordia Lodge No. 67 F. & A.M., having been a free mason for over seven decades. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania and Montgomery County Funeral Directors Associations.
He is survived by his son, Richard (Susan) Myers; and four grandchildren, Nicholas, Jack, Ashley, and Thomas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria E. (née Strack) Myers in 2021 and he longed for nothing more than to be reunited with her one day.
Funeral services and interment in Jarrettown United Methodist Church Cemetery were held privately for the family.
